Winter CC 2018: Yuniesky, “The winter nightmare”…

Ronda 9, FINAL

4.Cf3 Ac5 5.O-O d6 6.e3 O-O 7.d4 Ab6 8.h3 exd4 9.exd4 h6 10.Cc3 a6 11.a3 Ce7 12.Te1 c6 13.d5 cxd5 14.cxd5 Cg6 15.Ae3 Te8 16.Dd2 Ad7 17.Ad4 Axd4 18.Dxd4 Dc7 19.Cd2 Tac8 20.Txe8+ Txe8 21.Db4 a5 22.Dd4 Ce5 23.a4 Tc8 24.Af1 h5 25.Ta3 Af5 26.f4 Cg6 27.Cb5 Dd7 28.Cc4 Tc5 (0.00)

2018 Winter Chess Classic

The 2018 Winter Chess Classic is the fourth of four tournaments each year featuring international chess professionals. The Winter Chess Classic is comprised of two 10-player Round Robin tournaments. Over the course of 10 days, these competitors will battle for more than $30,000 in prize money and gain valuable experience in top-level events.

The Quarterly Strong Tournaments here at the Saint Louis Chess Club were created so strong international masters and newly minted grandmasters could participate in strong round robin tournaments in which to test their mettle against players of similar levels and to learn from these experiences. These tournaments are very rare. Generally, organizers are more interested in hosting elite events with big names such as Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So or Magnus Carlsen. Opportunities in the U.S. are rare grandmasters at the 2600 level.
